KUALA LUMPUR: PKR vice president Nurul Izzah Anwar has denied a report that she was filing to annul her marriage to husband Raja Ahmad Shahrir Iskandar Raja Salim.
Fielding a question from a follower on Twitter who asked the Lembah Pantai MP over the report that she was seeking a divorce under the fasakh (annulment) principle, Nurul Izzah said she was not.
“@msaiful82 wassalam. Nope,” she wrote in a brief reply on Twitter.
The Star reported on its website today of her rumoured divorce, and said she filed a petition to the effect with the Syariah Court.
The English-language newspaper claimed that she made the application last December, and that Raja Ahmad was served with the divorce papers on January 16.
Raja Ahmad wed the daughter of Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on May 2, 2003 and the two have a son and a daughter together.
In a later update, The Star added that checks with the lower Syariah Court here showed that the application was received.
It also added that court officials confirmed that both Nurul Izzah and Raja Ahmad were listed as parties in the divorce petition.
