PETALING JAYA: Kajang assemblyman Lee Chin Cheh today resigned from the Selangor Legislative Assembly, leaving the state seat vacant amid rumours that the current Selangor chief minister may soon leave his post.
Local daily The Star reported Selangor State Speaker Hannah Yeoh as saying that the Election Commission would be informed on Tuesday.
The newspaper said the resignation is believed to be connected to mounting speculation that opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is planning to replace Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim as Selangor mentri besar.
Anwar needs to be part of the State Legislative Assembly in order to take over the top job, it added.
