Good Samaritan robbed in front of Kajang police HQ

PETALING JAYA: A Good Samaritan, thinking he was rushing to the aid of an accident victim, was instead robbed of RM50 by a group of parang-wielding men in front of the Kajang police headquarters.
District deputy OCPD Supt Abdul Ghani Mohamad Ji said that the 20-year-old victim, a clerk working in a convenience store opposite the police headquarters, was manning the shop at about 6am Sunday, when a man who appeared to be confused entered the premises.
“He told the victim that he had just been involved in an accident and that his car had overturned along Jalan Cempaka Putih, which is behind the police headquarters and near the Kajang Sessions Court. The man claimed a friend was injured,” he said.
Concerned, the victim took a motorcycle belonging to one of his colleagues and rode with the man over to the where the accident was alleged to have happened.
Once there, the victim was cornered by four-men wielding parang, who stripped him of his gold chain and his colleague’s motorcycle. They also took RM50 - the only note the victim had in his wallet.
Supt Abdul Ghani said police, while investigating the case, were skeptical of the victim’s story, saying that the victim should have been at least a tad bit suspicious that the suspect came calling to him for help rather than going to the police which was next door.
The case is being investigated under Section 391 of the Penal Code for gang robbery.
In another case, Supt Abdul Ghani said that four robbers tied up a family in their bungalow in Bandar Seri Putra, Bangi on Saturday night, before stealing nearly RM42,000 in cash and jewellery.
He said that the suspects scaled the back of the bungalow, which is situated some 50 metres from the North–South Expressway and broke into the master bedroom.
“The suspects woke up the family of four and tied them up in the master bedroom using a telephone cable. They took about RM4,000 in cash along with jewellery and four watches,” he said.
