Youth gets 10 years, rotan, for rape
KAJANG: A youth has been sentenced to 10 years in jail and two strokes of the cane for raping a woman at Look Out Point in Ampang, a popular tourist spot.
Sessions Court judge Nor Hazani Hamzah ruled that the defence of Ahmad Farid Abdul Jalil, 20, had failed to raise reasonable doubt in the case.
The court, however, allowed a stay of execution on the sentence pending an appeal but raised the bail from RM10,000 to RM35,000.
Ahmad Farid was found guilty of raping the now 23-year-old victim at a clearing at Look Out Point in Ampang at 12.30am on Sept 11, last year.
Earlier, the victim told the court that she was traumatised by the incident while giving her victim impact statement.
"I am afraid of dark places. It's hard for me to focus on things and I prefer to be alone," she said on Wednesday.
Lawyer Amir Qushairi asked the court for a lenient sentence, as the accused was still young.
DPP Noor Fadzlin Abd Zawawi, however, pressed for a just sentence on grounds that the accused was previously convicted for molest.
